I just finished painting the entire s5 TII Drivetrain and Water Pump Housing, FD Alternator and Manifolds using VHT Flat Aluminum sp-117. It turned out beautiful. I also plan on having my guy use this paint when he rebuilds and streetports my Motor next week.
The thing Is, I noticed that the paint leaves a course texture. I'm thinking to clear coat It. Reason being, Is I think dirt and grime may enbed Itself Into It.
Will the clear coat hold against a TII Motor? What do you think? What paint did you use?
The paint I used was rated flame proof 1500F. Details would be great.

I just painted my engine and the manifolds, I don't know of any top coats that can stand the heat. I'm sure someone has to make one.
I am just leaving it as is, gives it character. That and I'm just to lazy to mask it all off and do it again.

I believe they do make engine-specific clear coat/sealants. I know someone that just rebuild and painted their engine, I'll talk to them and get back to you to see where they got it.

Ha ha. Thanks buddy. That Is my primary concern rxmfn7. Clear coat not being resistant to the hi temps. Did I mention there should be some dismantling taking place this week? I'll keep you posted!

dont use the high temp engine clear spray paint they have....it will turn a nasty shade of yellow in about a years time.... but i used silver and black high temp engine paint bought from walmart. 1200 degreed F it said it was good for on the can, after like 2k miles. its still holding up on the houseings and the plates. i powdercoated everything else. i wouldnt paint the tranny....it will screw up. the tranny fluid is soo thin when it gets warm...it actually soaks and embeds itself in the metal of the tranny houseing. so its impossible to get paint to stick to it....it will flake off in a few days and look like ***....i took a wire wheel to mine and just shined it up a bit....looks great.
