Painting the Emblems
Painting the Emblems
I hand-painted some extra emblems I had because I was bored...... I'm getting a fresh coat of glossy black on my car soon.. and I didn't want my emblems to be black on black... So... I'm thinking chrome/silver. But the whole things in chrome/silver.. ICK...
Here's what I have so far...

As you can see. I only want the surface of the letters painted. So the rest blends into the car. I could hand-paint them all... but its not going to look as good if I do it.
I used a really low quality paint and a shitty paint brush for this stuff... and I MIGHT be able to get it looking better... even with chrome....
However... Does anybody know a way to mask off letters this small? I might be able to do the larger letters, but the small "mazda" on the RX-7 one will be a PITA.
Any innovative ideas anybody?

probably not, but you could clear coat over the sharpie, then power wash it and see what happens....
you could try that small pinstripe painters tape, and about 20mins per letter, but it could be worth it.
looks good so far!
I was just joking, lol, but ummm, if you get a paint brush thats really fine, that could work. Im sure any hobby shop or comic book store that sells warhammer stuff would have paints and brushes small enough that you can use. Actually, thats a better idea than a hobby shop. Find some place that sells warhammer 40k stuff and you can get some really good small brushes.

I thought about the upside down in the tray thing...... but... You'd have to let it dry upside down and it would be all bumpy and stuff.. LOTS of extra paint. Maybe if you thinned it out a lot and did two coats or something.
are they metal? if so you could paint the whole thing black, then polish the surface silver again with very fine sandpaper...or use a rubber roller to paint just the raised part...
....or use this method:
1) paint whole thing silver and alow to dry thoroughly
2)take a small wood or hard rubber block and wrap tightly with a fine cloth
3)paint whole thing black and immediately use cloth block to carefully wipe paint off raised areas
