Painted Tail Lights?

Hey guys, I'm looking into paint options for my 88 TII, and I was wondering if anybody had done (i'm sure somebody has) or has pics of s4 TII's with the trim around the tail lights painted. The 10th ann. cars of course have the trim painted but I need to see this in other colors...mainly red as that's the stock color on my car and most likely what I will stick with. So if you've done this or just have pics, post'em up. Thanks.

Oooh... I'm thinking that red paint could look bad surrounding red tail lights. I think for a red car, it'd be nice to have the black trim of the tail lights to offset them from the body. If you were talking about a white, black, grey, or maybe even blue s4, I'd say go for it. I doubt that's gonna look too attractive, tho. Just my $.02

S4's (from what I've seen) usually look good with the outside of the tails color matched to the rest of the car's paint.

Unfortunately, the car in the pic above, looks really terrible (although really clean... and I love those wheels). That's just my opinion though.

I like the black trim on the S4 personally. I plan on repainting the tail light trim back to black, as I think it looks wicked. I don't know if anyone has done them up in red, but I think if you look around some of the pic threads, someone has done it. It wouldn't look too bad, but I prefer the black over anything else. (I don't really even like the color match on the 10ae that much.)

there is a thread about this that was posted a few months back. Nearing a year ago. actually. It had a red S4 vert with red tail surrounds. Icemark posted the pic so maybe he still has it.

'Course you could approach it from the other direction. Paint the car to match the tail light trim. Black car/black trim. Looks great on the S5. The tailights on the S5 don't need the trim dividing the functional parts of the tails.

Whoa! WTF!

Anyways. Another good idea is to tint the turn signal and reverse lamp lens.

if you have to Paint the Lights,Just make sure that you use a Paint that is Intended for Plastic.(I use Krylon,I find it is good for What I need it to be sprayed on.)If you use the body paint,it won't have the Flex agents in it to bond Properly to Plastic.(same goes for the bumper parts, which can Flex and have the Paint Crack and Peel.)

IMHO painted tail lights don't make the 7 look very clean unless it's done right. Silver on silver and white on white are just about all you can get away with. I agree with MmSadda; you should do a black trim that offsets the tail lights from the body that would look dope :-)

The trim is already black...as well as the black molding around the car. My plan would be to leave the black moldings, but paint the trim around the tails.

To me colour matched tail lights and rear hatch surrounds look bad.

It loos like you got a $300 Maaco paint job and the guy didn't know where to mask so he just sprayed everything. I think the black light surround, hatch surround and even mirrors gives a nice contrast to the car's colour.

But it's all personal preference. There are a number of cars on this site with painted lights, so finding a pic should be pretty easy. If you like it, then go nuts - just take your time to do it right. Take the lights off the car, prepare the surface properly and mask them well. Even if you love the look, a half assed paint job will make them look like ***.
