Most dealers don't stock the paint as they purchase the color when needed from local paint suppliers. As your silver is metallic, it will require a clearcoat to be factory original. Talk with your local automotive paint supplier to get what type of paint you want.

As turbonut said, go talk to a good local paint shop, they can custom mix paint to the factory color.

I'd talk to some local shops in the area and see who they recommend for having paint mixed, or contact PPG or Dupont and see where there official suppliers are locally, as those will typically be the best places to start.

Expect to pay 500-750 dollars for paint and clear BTW. Quality paint is not cheap.

lol the paint materials for my motor alone cost me 450$

Car I was quoted $4,800 doing it myself for $600 in materials. "free sand paper :-)"

A goo paint job is very exspensive! You could probably have a respray done for 300$. Should last atleast 2 years.

well all im really after is basicaly a "respray". there are spots where the clear coat is peeling and a few spots where the paint is chipped from rocks and normal wear and tear over 20 years, and i need to hood painted, as it looks like this now

but this is a race only car now so im not looking for show quality or anything just a stock looking repaint with clear

I truly hope that reverse scoop is functional. It looks a little too usdm muscle-ish to me.

I have used these guys for factory match paint in spray cans and in pints:

while they are not cheap, the paint is good quality and matches pretty well

silver doesnt automatically mean two-stage, it can come in a single phase, ie acrylic enamal, urthane ect. Also, if you can do it for $600 in materials sounds way cheap, include good primer, $200, then all hte hardners and reducers, etch primers, cleaners and about $2,000 in tools. If you have never done it before and don't have a paint booth, then pay someone credible to do it, otherwise it will look like crap and prolly not even stick longer than a few years, no offense to your abilities, it just isnt the kind of thing you can just jump in and do. The base and clear by themselves are around $600. Also, the code J5, if that is correct, is not a custom color as others state. That is a factory color, simple as can be to mix, thats why they have a code. Any local supplier, PPG, Dupont, Sikkens, can easily match that, they do it 20 times a day at the least. It is not custom, custom would be mixing a one off color with no formula. They can mixz that silver in about 20 minutes if they arnt busy. The manufacturere does not have "stock oem" or "dealer" paint. It all comes from the same place, the local guys. There is no Mazda paint, beside shifft touch up bottles that people like to ruin cars with. rock out-

also, if your car has delamination between the clear and basecoats, then you need to stripe the whole car and teh estiamte you got sounds very fair, if they are credible and arnt scam artists that 85% or bodyshops are. if you just sand and spray over the peeling clear, the primer will only have that surface to adhear to, if the underlaying surface peels it will take whatever is on top of it along for the ride, not to mention many other problems like lifting when you spray. If you havent done it before, then dont, trust me. there is a reason labor is so expensive at a quality shop.

also also, spary cans will never match perfectly due to the pressure that the can creates and that it is acetone based, acetone will dry a color differently than true paint will. Also, spray cans are for kids, not cars. They have no hardner or anyhting to lock it down, so you can whipe it off with solvent. That seid, it is far less durable to weather.
