p-port in addition to normal ports?

p-port in addition to normal ports?

is this posible. i was reading the 200 hp n/a thread and people are talking about sp's bp's and the pp. the pp seems to be the greatest power adder of all. my question is, has anyone ever had a pport engine with the normal 6 ports still active. maybe a very small pport. this seems to me like it would be a great idea. maybe with a variable intake kinda thing hooked up. when you hit a certain rpm have some butterflies open up to the pport. sorry for the ramble this just sounds like a cool idea. has this been done before. i would have searched but didn't know what to search for. thanks guys

yea, there's combination p-port/regular (street/half-bridge/bridgeports) ports. judge ito did this to his n/a drag project. should still be on the front page of www.vintagerotaries.com . it should be an ~8.5 second car i believe.

while looking at the pictures of the lim it looks like it's a 4 port block done up with tthe pp. with a six port and the pp that would be a pretty crazy engine. first the 5 and 6th ports would come on and then the pp's would open up. sounds like fun. when i get my engine ported i would really like to lookinto this. you guys have any more input on this. this seems like it would be a pretty good solution for us N/A guys trying to make good power

well its some custom work, and you'd need a nice new intake manifold and a standalone first of all. its been discussed and *pondered* why n/a guys dont tend to make much power. its not always because its an n/a, its also because most either dont have the money, choose not to go very far, or go turbo instead.

it just seems crazy that this has not been done before. in the piston world v-tec is taking over. this would kinda be like a v-tec. the p-ports stay closed until like 4500 or 5000 rpm then are open with linkage or rpm switch and actuator. that would still leave the streetable idle/low end and feul efficency but then the p-port hits and you take off. i can't beleive this hasn't been done very often. Is this what is called the semi pport? i saw the manifold for a semi pport 13b but it was a 4 port and it was set up for a carb i beleive. i would love a 6 port 13b version of this that would work with the stock uim. i have a bunch of ideas but i am just one person alone with limited funds for about another 4 months till i come into some money. It would be nice if someone had a perspective on this that has done it to tell me if it is worth investigating further. in my mind it seems to be a great solution to drivability and power. keep this thread alive for a bit i would really like some input on this stuff. thanks for the reply's

Yes, it is a semi-pp. And whether your doing it on a 4port or 6-port it doesn't really matter... same sort of deal anyway.

And you would not want to use it with the stock UIM, MUCH too restrictive.

Reason most people don't do this is because it costs alot of money.

You need a custom intake manifold to take full advantage of it, a good exhaust manifold design, standalone... and much more.

And it will still never be as smooth as it was with out the P-ports there at all. You'd need to block the airflow off right at the housing side, not further up with a butterfly vavle, which is nearly impossible.

Good idea.. But good ideas cost money.

IMHO, you'd be better off just going for a full P-Port.

If you want 300hp that you can actually use on the street, get a turbo or a bigger engine. The only sensible use for PP's these days is race formulas that don't allow turbos.

i don't want to turn to boost though. not enough is being done to make a N/A fast. i think when i get my engine ported i will investigate this. i have never owned a pport motor so i don't knwo the characteristics first hand. but it seems that if the air was blocked from entering the port it wouldn't ahve the extremely rough idle and such. and if the port was small enough you probably would barly have to block the air. i have seem a lim for a emi pport but it was a lim for a 4 port engine. not the six port. does anyone make the lim for the semi pport 6 port engine. this is something i would really like to do in the semi near future. the more input the better. and i realize that a slight exhaust port and headers and such would be a nessesity. this is just an idea. so intreging though that i can't stop thinking about it. i couldn't sleep last night thiking of the possibilities. anymore help would be great. thanks guys
