overheating after installing new oil lines

I dunno what's going on. I blew an upper oil cooler hose and replaced them with stainless lines ...

after getting my car back together, it's wanting to overheat. I burped the coolant system when i reinstalled the radiator but it's still wanting to heat iup higher than normal. Cuurently, it's getting almost 3/4 of the way up the temp gauge. it wasn't doing this before...

Anybody have a suggestion?

Um....it's at idle and I checked for leaks. I had one leak at the lower radiator hose.... It rolled back when I clamped it on so I fixed that. I did not replace the thermostat though. Could that be the problem?

well.....

I ran the car up and down a long stretch just now....

I boosted it all the way and took it up to roughly 6k....didn't heat up that much at all...in fact, it cooled down a bit...stayed just under 1/2.

BUT, I noticed some smoke coming out of my gutted cat. It looks like it's puffing out of the gasket. smells funny....like something is burning but I can't think of what it could be. I'm leaving my car at a friends overnight and dealing with it tomorow. This damn TII is really tiring me out.....
