Overheated

on my first short road trip (70 miles), I started to smell coolant.
Carefully checking my stock water gauge, I made it home safely.

Taking the car out for about 10 min, the water temp went to half.
I could see smoke coming out of my hood scoop.

Upon checking my engine bay, I could hear a smal hissing sound around the alternator.
I think that it might be the thermostat. What do you think?

I also filled the rad with coolant, and it did need quite an amount to fill it.
Guess the overflow bottle didn't do its job.

You guys think my coolant seals are busted? I will get an aftermarket gauge next month, just cant afford it yet.

$10 says its the coolant hose directly behind the water filler neck next to the sensor.

its the hose that goes to your heater core check around the oil filter area.....either that or..while the car is hot...turn the heater to full blast, it should be warm....
