over-rev'ed?

Hello- I have an 88 convertable and yesterday I missed a shift and rev-ed the engine to 7,500... Have I done any damage- do I need to check anything?

Oil pressure is still up around 80-110.

just for my inner curiosity...what will that engine turn?

I think 7500 will be alright.

Check the compression on the motor is what I would do.

With stock internals you could spin 9-9500 rpm. It won't be worth it with everything on the outside of the engine stock and stock ports.

7500 is fine.

i am using an S4 core with an S5 (manifold, ECU, etc.)

i rev to 8k a few times a week, no problems so far.

i think the weak points for reving too high is possibly the side seal clearance, e-shaft, and your main drivetrain assembly (flywheel, etc.)

I do the same. I have the same set-up as yours and mine pulls really well up to 7800

Yeah 7500rpm will not hurt a rotary - spin it up to 10k, maybe you'll break something.
No fragile valves or the like in there.

My dad raced a first gen once at the Mid-Ohio 24hr race, he asked the crew chief what the redline is, he said "don't worry about that, you can't over-rev it, just shift when you feel the power slacking off."

yeah, i did similar, 90mph misshift to 2 instead of 4. i huge fireball and a tach that went all the way around to zero, tires screeched but instantly was shifted into proper gear. cracked the apex seal. but that was on a s4 turbo. all seemed fine for like another 20-30 miles then the seal made its way out.

Ya, 7500 should be fine. I've accidently reved mine to the high beam indicator.

A periodic minor over-rev won't matter.

Intentionally reving above redline is not a good idea. There's a reason that the redline exists. The MOP isn't designed to provide proper lubrication above redline. I've roasted an engine in part due to overreving so take my word on it.

Well if you want my opinion on the matter, then yes I can see that it might make sense for a track car to run only premix, but there's nothing wrong with the MOP for normal operating conditions. Saying that premix is a benifit because then it better enables you to run your car up to 9k for no reason isn't a valid arguement. I really doubt that a infrequent quick and minor overrev is going to make any difference with respect to the MOP's capabilities.

The rev-limiter wouldnt have came in, or even mattered if you miss-shifted into a too low of a gear. Because it is gearing related, not fuel related. The rev limiter works by cutting fuel.
