Exclamation Outer tie rod ?

I have put a new o. tie rod on my s5 and i can not get the bolt that holds it to the steering buckle the one with the cotter pin, when I try to tighten it the whole bolt spins. Is that normal, is there a tool I need to get, is it a mlfuntion it is starting to bother me. PLEASE HLP ME.. Thanks Eric

How tight are you going with it. I think it is only 17-20 ft - lbs of torque.

The nut on there is a castlated nut and is never ment to tightened very much. That is why there is a cotter key.

The nut will not go down due to it spins the bolt will not make it past the cotter pin.

usually when the nut does'nt go in its because the end is worn or the threads are boogied up. if that is not the case then you can try squeezing the tie rod end into the knuckle with some large channel locks. your best bet would be an air gun

wd-40 on the nut worked for me, it was just too dirty and was easier for the ball joint to spin than the nut to go down... I just kept playing with it, on and off a few times, until it went.
