I recently had a small mishap with both of my muffler tips (stupid me) and they're both bent to whack. There's nothing wrong with the exhaust system as a whole, and there's nothing wrong with look like sh*t). My question is, what do you suggest i do? I wanted to get a whole new exhaust system for it, but realized i wasn't prepared to spend the money. Now i'm looking into performance mufflers which i can easily install and make it look nice all while keeping the same system. Ideas, anyone? If you could post links to sites/companies that have mufflers or exhaust tips that'll fit an 88 GXL, that would be great. Thanks in advance... any help is GREATLY appreciated.

How much do you have to spend? Do you need "dual" exhaust? Cause you could probably do something like hi-flo cat -->straight pipe --> muffler, maybe 2.5''. I think you should run with a damaged muffler (if its driveable that is) until you can afford better parts. Why waste money on a part to fit the stock system when you could spend a little more and get a new setup (yea i know sometimes "alittle more" turns into a lot ). Im gonna go try and find some products for you and see what I can dig up.

Hey, thanks for the reply.... Yeah, it's dual. I was just thinking about saving it up to get something new. and that brings me to a new question... what should i get?

How much are you looking to spend? Also, I was wondering when I asked about dual, do you want to have a dual exhaust in the new setup?

Well, right now i've got to pay off repairs for it, which ends up to be around $500... hopefully within the next few months i'll have $800 or so i can spend. And yes... duals is a must. Thanks for helping!

If you want to replace just the mufflers, look here:

Scroll down to the bottom, where it says "86-92 Mufflers", then under that it says "The Racing Beat systems...". From what it says (The mufflers must be changed as a pair if replacing original mufflers.), it sounds like these are direct fit for original (stock I think they mean) mufflers. Anyway you need part number 16444 (Left Non-Turbo), and part number 16443 (Right Non-Turbo). Call up Mazdatrix though and double-check before you buy. This is one alternative to buying a full system right now, as you can always buy the Y-pipe later (it says that its bigger in diameter and better construction then original y-pipe), and then later on get a new hi-flo cat (if needed). I don't know how much 2 Mazda OEM mufflers would cost, but these are $220 each. **** now Im thinking that for $420 you can get a APEXi N1 system (http://www.rx7trix.com/store/custome...cat=137&page=1) which replaces everything after the cat...that sounds like a better option. Let me know what you think.

i highly recomend a Borla exhaust. they look great on the car and are Y piped so you will have both exhaust and they sound really good. also they are a breeze to instale because they instale the same as the stock exhaust. last i checked they ran about 390 dollars pluss S&H

Oh I see duals is a must...and I see you will have $800 to spend...Good! In that case Racing Beat is your friend. For $576, you have a complete dual 3'' catback. I would go with this then. It says its good for a 5-7HP increase also! I love the sound of RB exhausts. This is what you should go with.
