os giken, or act prolite and xtreme pp?

I am in the process of building a circuit track car with minimal drifting, and weekend street driving.

Which clutch would be a better performer?
I am worried the way the giken is constructed it will not have a light of a flywheel as the act setup.
The other concern is locating replacement discs and what the cost would be.

Any info would be great!

I can set you up with a custom clutch here in the shop, $550 + shipping top of the line units purposly built for performance, unlike a lot of the cheaper stuff on the market. And if you feel the need for some reason, we can get twin, tripple, and up to 5 disc clutchs 6 inches in diameter...

well this is a circuit tract car with minimal street time, so a light flywheel and a solid light clutch is what I am looking for.

It seems that the Os giken clutch has a lot of mass attached to the flywheel.

What kind of garuntee does your clutch have, and does that price include a flywheel?

ah yes BUT its all in the center (the OS giken is HARD to street drive) but the since the mass is in the center its a very quick response clutch setup(twinplate setup) and wears really slowly will burnup the flywheel before the clutch the OS giken is bad *** hands down...

Racing Beat has been around since day 1 and they back their product up with a warranty.

Talking

hmm, I will probably get the giken, i have no clue how much more discs cost though. From what I can tell the flywheel is serviceable too. If thats the case I will def get one.

On a ricer note I hear they "clink" when engaging, have no clue what that would be like but sounds pretty cool

not quite sure I understand you on that one. I idle around 1100 just because I have everything removed for the standalone and with metal mounts throghout the drivetrain and engine it shakes bad at low idle.

os giken is pretty baddass. it sounds like keys being "jangled?" when engaged...it does suck on the street though and you might need a beefier TO bearing..

I weight my twin disk OS and my RB lightweight steel flywheel with ACT Extreme pressure plate and the OS setup was 3 pounds lighter. My last set of OS replacement disks was $900. You can drive the OS on the street, just takes a little getting used to it, very on and off.

They outsource a LOT of their products. You think they make any of their clutches in-house?
I'll give you a hint... They don't.

Maybe you didn't notice how the "RB" clutch had "clutchnet" written all over it?
Hmm... maybe its made by these guys?
www.clutchnet.com

Not saying its a bad product... I really like clutchnet products. But saying that its an RB produced item is untrue.

OS gilken is a quick reving light flywheel / clutch combo

it is difficult to street, but not impossible, i have just over 11k miles on mine this year alone, still goes

Make sure you have some good motormounts though, a light grabby clutch really puts a strain on other stuff

damn 900 for replacement discs thats insane! I got a quote for 400 for 2 but maybe you got yours before they where being imported. This guy was from canada selling the discs.

And how long did it take you to go through a set of discs, I am hoping a good while.

Lastly I have solid alluminum mounts on the engine and tranny, rear diff as well, with some welding for support

You don't got to be a jackass about it.

It is a racing beat product. I don't care who makes it, that's a manufacturer product. If you want to argue with yourself, go right ahead.

I am simply suggesting an alternative clutch from the OS clutch. 6 puck sprung with heavy duty pressure plate from racing beat is a nice grabby setup that is very streetable. Just stay away from the ACT Xtreme pressure plate as the hydrolics on RX7s are not powerful enough to handle the pressure plate.

I have the ACT 6 puck with the HD PP and its cool. I did drive another one with a exedy multi plate clutch and 9lb flywheel setup all in one and it might take some getting used to on the street its my next clutch for sure.

And in the discussion of performance clutches Racing Beat should not even be brought up

I have heard good things about those excedy multi plate clutches.

I had an excedy backin the day and hated it, some with centerforce. neither one lasted.

but I have had act's on my last few vehicles HD/SS and they outlasted my ownership of the car.

The Os giken looks to be an amazing clutch but at the price and rareity of the replacement parts, it seems to make it a little less practical. I know if I fry my 6puck act clutch that a new disc is 170 bucks away!

Its not a racing beat product. Racing beat is a supplier for clutchnet.
If you buy an RB exhaust from Mazdatrix, is it now a mazdatrix exhaust? Of course no; that's retarded.
The clutch clearly says CLUTCHNET on it. I think its a little deceiving of RB not to clearly state they are simply selling another brand under their own name.

I've run an ACT Xtreme Pressure plate on many cars for a lot of years. Properly maintained (proper fluid changes) on good parts and the stock system does not fail on this pressure plate.
