Opinions on clutches
ok so my throw out bearing is toast, and friction plate is on its way out, need to change the clutch soon. thinking of going with the ACT street clutch kit that corksport offers, considering it supposably comes with all new bearings and an alignment tool,(everything i need?)I was planning on having the flywheel resurfaced and loading up with some redline MTF and redline differential oil as well.
But my real question is what do you guys think is the best clutch? its my daily driver and i want a clutch that i can drive pretty comfortably in but also can get on it on the weekends or once in a while and not have it turn to butter. thanks

why do these kits never ever come with the pilot bearing seal? i haven't figured that out yet. as for clutch i don't think you can go wrong with ACT. i have a centerforce dual friction in my car at the moment, which i think is great but there are alot of mixed reviews out there. my only reaction to that is that centerforce clutches need a proper break in more than other clutches do.
if you can drop the money for a lightened flywheel you will love it, otherwise just get the original resurfaced.

The "best" clutch will cost a whole lot more than a $400 ACT. The ACT street/strip is great, I had one on my vert. Holds well and pedal pressure wasn't too heavy. I liked it so much that I got another ACT after I did my TII swap.

I got the ACT Extreme street/strip for my vert holds nice, toooo nice ripped my tranny in 2 weeks. As a daily driver you're better off with a good stock clutch especially if everything else is stock. Don't sleep on a stock clutch I use them to race so not to shatter my drivetrain.

I have owned a ACT SS and 6 puck both with HD PP plates. Don't upgrade the clutch without getting at least a 17lbs flywheel. 9lbs might be much for the 6 puck but you will get used to driving whatever you have once its broken in. Both these clutches will be good for up to about 350rwhp. Much over 400 and I am switching to a exedy multidisk setup. Also be very skeptical of something on ebay for 150 bucks with the same name of a company that sells clutches for 1500 dollars. You might be getting a stock replacement in a box that says whatever.

When I installed the rebuilt engine in my car about a year and a half ago, I chose an ACT street/strip clutch kit (disc, pressure plate, release bearing and pilot bearing).
This is the 3rd clutch in my car, the first lasted the longest, you guessed it the OEM unit, a Daikin unit from Japan; 65k km's
The second, an Exedy/Daikin kit marketed in Canada as a DynaPac, this one was a gooder! NOT! It lasted only 5000 km's! peice of crap, add to this that the plastic housed release bearing squealed and wined when ever it was depressed, yep real cool, sitting at a light with a strange squeal eminating from underneath the car, I'll tell you that I was happy to see it go!
The current unit, an ACT kit as mentioned, so far ringing in at 12k km's. This unit seems pretty good, definitly a tougher unit then the second disc, easy to control the launch and slip when inching in traffic especially up hills. Now for the down side... First off I contacted ACT about this and they say it's normal with this disc and has been an issue in another Mazda disc they sell for the Miata.
It makes an awful noise when releasing the clutch, just before final lockup, a sort of "whoop" as the disc chatters across the flywheel face. I can't figure a way around it, and ACT say's that it won't affect the operation or service life so they will not replace it under warranty...
