What usually happens when...

I know some people have left the ground off that bolts to the tranny to the firewall. Does that effect anything or is it an extra ground? I found mine all melted, probably from having no exhaust after the turbo.

Extra ground...but I doubt it does very little.
If you happened to forget the MAIN ground, and crank the starter (i.e. starter grounds through that thin wire), that thin wire will vaporize!

ahh thats probably what happened. didn't have a starter on and just push started it. not me. lol

The cheesy clip-on ground to the firewall is mostly to stabilize signals & reduce noise to the ECU.

After push starting without the primary ground, the alternator was trying to recharge the battery through that wire.
