Open header, good or bad idea?

I know on a conventional engine running without a full exhaust possibly kills high end power and kills a lot of torque. How does this effect a rotary?

I will be attending a drift event in the next couple of days and don't have time to fix a clogged exhaust that is on the car right now. So the dilema is whether to run the car with just a down pipe or use the clogged exhaust. As far as I can tell the car is stock. The 6th ports are wired open and I don't know if the VDI is working. This is an S5 that I just picked up for very little money. IT WILL BE TRAILORED TO THE EVENT.

Thanks in advance!

depends: do you like it when your ears bleed? and your head hurts after only 20 seconds of the noise? How about not being able to hear anything for at least 10 minures (after 10 seconds of exposure)

if you do then go ahead........I suggest you don't....the noise is stupid loud and I doubt you'll put up with 2 minures of driving.

That is a good point. It was stupid loud. However, with some plugs, I think MY ears won't be bleading. What about unburnt gas flaming? Could I cause a fire?

HAHA

@ mazdarx7racer

Is it just a coincidence that we both live in San Jose and we both have "I HATE RICERS" somewhere in our info?

Are you going to altamont this thursday or are you mainly a grip driver?

Loud exhaust is annoying, you have to balance it though, flow><noise i run:
Stock collector.Bonez superflo presilencer/cat>stock tii catback (black mufflers yo) deep without getting annoying. I'd like to change out to a racing beat header, but that'd be a bad purchase seeing as how i'm going turbo soon. Then i think i'll be running the whole corksport setup with a high flow cat, or Corksport DP>Bonez Cat>Dual N1's

1. find the spot of the clogg, tapping or feed some wire in there..
2. cut right before the clogg
3. enjoy.

With the stock exhaust manifold, it would be loud, but nowhere near how stupid loud it would be with an aftermarket header.

@lsx257

What exactly are you selling. I don't get it. If you were asking me, yeah I'm going to NCDA.

Hey, where is the cheapest place to get tires mounted?

If you've got the time to pull off the cat to leave it open exhaust then you have the time to jab it with a ******* crow bar and bash that **** out! A gutted cat will not kill your ears.

Yeah, do that. I drove with an open header from my house to an exhaust shop, it was freakin' insane. The whole car shook, and my ears felt like bleeding. I tried not to go over 2.3k rpm, and it seemed to run like crap (I dunno, maybe the loud sound was messing with my perception).

You are gonna smell like **** though when you done driving the car. I ran a short piped exhaust once and got sick from the fuel fumes and carbon monoxide... AND I WAS DRIVING 80MPH for 2 hours straight!

If your cat is where your clog is then gut that peice man, it isn't that bad really, sound or fumes shouldn't be that big of a problem unless your running real rich.
