Open header?

heres the deal

i got a 86 na that i just swapped engines in. It ran but didnt have any power in gear. so i removed the cats. they were dirty and clogged. i emptied them. completly. and put them back on. well it fires up sorta but still wont idle. whats up with that? any body know?

Also i started it up with just the exhaust manifold and boy howdy did that thing SCREAM!@! damn i love rotaries. id drive it like that but its INCREADIBLY LOUD. neighbors come out yelling and those who get close say the ground shakes. all this from a NA.

so anybody got any ideas on how to keep it alive?
should i get an aftermarket exhaust to eliminate the cat and silencer combo?

anybody got a TII engine sittin around they dont want?
If your local let me know, i know rotaries pretty well but any and all help is welcomed.

Hey man, back when my RX7 ran (before I got crap into my intake), I did that to mine too. I just left the cats off, and welded a pipe in their place. But yeah, we cranked it up with out ANYTHING on there, and it was TOTALLY rockin'! We had a lot of fun running it around town like that for a few hours. Got a few complaints and everything! Leave the cats off, and just weld a pipe in their place and leave the stock mufflers. That works quite well!
