One reason to keep your warning buzzer

As I was on the home from work last night I decided to lace it getting on the highway. After a quick shot up to 100-110 I shut it down and resume the legal limit. Right about that time I hear a pop by my driver’s front tire. It sounded a lot like I ran over a reflector, so thinking nothing of I cruise on. A second or two later my buzzer is screaming bloody murder and the oil light is on. So I instantly kill the engine and pull off the highway into a well lit parking lot. When I got out to see what happened I find a long trail of oil behind me, and a big puddle under the car.

What happened was the oil cooler return hose let got at the crimp to the hard line. This was because some knuckle dragging redneck decided to half a** the crimp. At this point I think it was malicious. When 876portturbo and I decided to get the lines made we went to Hosefast in Garland, Texas. We could tell right away the guy didn’t want to do it, or anything for that matter. When 876portturbo started his engine for the first time the feed hose blew completely out of the crimp and soaked his brand new Koyo radiator. Mine lasted less than 2,000 miles.

If it had not been for the warning buzzer I probably would not have noticed the pressure gauge and destroyed my engine.

Here are a few pics. The entire driver side and rear of the car was covered in oil, not to mention the engine bay and under carriage.

Oil on the tires doesn't look so good. Could have caused and accident.

See -- your 7 knows how to take care of you too.

Corksport all the way brother. I've used their lines for years, including on my own car. For 130 bucks you can't beat it.

I'm fine, there was still a little oil on the very bottom of the dipstick. I knew somebody that drove about 20 miles thinking it was a power steering hose.

You got that right. I've been shopping lines ever since I got the car, thought I was slick spending half that.

I've dealt with them for the last 8 years at work with no problems. I'm just a little bitter towards them now since that was first time I had anything made for my car.

The main reason I wanted to post this was for all those threads that want to disable that buzzer because its "annoying". It might just save your engine, it saved mine.

Amazing. It's almost like the warning buzzers were there for a reason.

The next time somebody posts a "How do I get rid of that stupid buzzer" thread, we should link to this one.

Another testemonial:

*My heater hose blew in such a way that there was no advanced warning.. no smoke from it burning off my engine, nothing.. Buzzer went off instantly, switched it off.. saved the engine.

*I had an oil leak from my oil cooler line as well.. buzzer went off... saved the engine.

It should be mentioned that I pay a little too much attention to the sounds in my car... I'm meticulous about creaks, rattles, smells, etc. If it was noticeable at all I would have picked up on it... but, it doesn't matter how much you pay attention, the buzzer is worth the possibility of an annoyance.... but if its working correctly, it won't be.

Even a faulty buzzer/level sensors/etc. is worth the annoyance... its like an average radar detector.. you might get a lot of false-positives, but the instant you ignore it... you get screwed.

^^^ what he said

and finally my low gas light works... it was really funny though, it wouldn't just flick on, it would fade from black, and then cut out when it decided there was enough gas again, haha
