Question OMP Install

OK, I have lived long enough with the Check Engine light coming on my '88 Vert. Checked the codes (thanks for the info in archives), and get OMP.

So I get a good deal from someone here on a used one. Worth the time and $50 to try and get it fixed. Got new copper gasket from Trix and new oval seal.

Here's the question: What should I lube the gasket with before setting in the groove? Oil, vasiline, or nothin at all?

BTW. All of my OMP lines were full up, and appear in good shape. If the OMP was working ok, why the 2 codes that both say OMP problem?

I am also replacing the water pump, since it was leaking too. Any suggestions on gasket sealant before I slap it all back together?

All new hoses, belts, alternator, plugs, and wires. a $500 tuneup for sure, but taking my time, and should be out for spring. Draining and replacing brake fluid, power steering, and of course oil.

I have alot of pics and info. (I like to take pics during teardown.... helps me see what I cant remember, and the book doesnt cover well enough) Besides, I clean everything up real well too, so they make great before and afters.

I may be wrong, but I have an '88 convertible and mine doesn't have a MIL. I belive that it was only on s5's. If your omp is electronic, then it's got to be an 89+. At least the engine and cpu.

Anyways DON'T use vaseline. I made the mistake of using it once on my engine rebuild, and it swelled the water jacket seals to twice their size. Use engine oil, or if you have any, the best option is hylomar HPF.

If your OMP goes, your ECU usually goes as well. I'd post in the For Sale Section: WTB N350/351 ECU. They'll come out of the woodwork with offers between $45 - $75 shipped.

My typo... yes, I have an 1989 Vert. I had read some postings that made me think I might need to replace the ECU as well.... especially now that I see the OMP looks like it was (is) working. The 27 and 37 codes usually show up after about 15 minutes of driving. Turn the key off, restart and I am good to go for a few more miles. When driving on the highway, it seems not to be a problem... right up until i let up the accelerator to go through a toll booth, then BLAM lights up check engine light and goes into limp mode with no power.
