OMP feed hole in front cover: can it be clogged by silicone?

Just wondering if there is a possibility of this hole being clogged by sealant when installing a front cover gasket.

I applied a thin film of ultra grey to my front cover gaskets when installing them. Many people recommend this and mazdatrix even recommends installing S4 front covers with no gasket and silicone instead.

I suppose it's possible if you apply an excessive amount to it. Just don't be excessive and you should be fine.

It could happen. If you've already got the engine running, then just pull off one of the banjo bolts on the OMP and run the engine at approx 2000rpm with the OMP control rod pulled fully up. Oil should puddle on the floor below the car if everything is working right.

I've done this RTV on the cover and no gasket in the past and really don't think a whole lot of good about that method.

Will do.

Yep, I used the gasket + RTV. I have S5 end irons anyhow, so I have the teflon reinforcement.

I just don't understand why it's so widely recommended to silicone the gasket when it could have catastrophic consequences.

I checked the FD OMP today and when i removed the banjo bolt oil came out. I had a friend hold it at 2000 rpm for a short while and it appeared to slowly ooze oil.

I'll check the FC at some point as well and post up.

It's no big deal either way since I've mixed 128:1 TCW3 in both engines from day 1. If I find the OMP is not getting oil on the FC I may bump up the ratio.
