Okay once and for all - What cars came with what brakes???

Okay... I know this comes up all too damn often and there STILL isn't a solid answer.

So here's what I'll do... there were TWO types of brake line setups. So when you want to replace your brake lines with stainless steel lines you need to know which length and thread size fits your car.

I'll fill in all the ones I know, everyone please COPY and PASTE the entire list... and fill in the ones YOU KNOW. Do not fill them in if you "heard" it, or "read" it somewhere. Only the ones YOU have worked on personally and knew came stock with the car (no one swapped them in before you worked on it).

I'd love to see this list completed by the last person who posts, then the thread archived.

The way I characterize the brake lines is their lengths. The Turbos come with a SHORTER brake line, meaning more hardline. So I'll call the short line S and the long line that goes all the way to the caliper from the wheel well, L.

Put the appropriate letter next to the car year/model.

86 Base - L
86 Sport - ?
86 Luxury - ?
86 GXL - ?

87 Base - L
87 Sport - ?
87 Luxury - ?
87 GXL - ?
87 Turbo - S

87 Notes: (There was a change half way through the year, so if you know anything that we should know... put it here.)

88 Vert - ?
88 SE - L
88 GTU - ?
88 GXL - ?
88 Turbo - S

89 Vert - ?
89 GTU - L
89 GXL - S
89 Turbo - S
89 GTUs - S

90 Vert - ?
90 GTU - L
90 GXL - S
90 Turbo - S
90 GTUs (Few that were made) - S

91 Vert - ?
91 Coupe - ?
91 Turbo - S

I filled in a few I haven't SEEN but heard plenty about... the GTUs... everyone knows it came with TII brakes.

Other than that, I've owned and worked on almost everything in the S5 range except for the Verts. I've never owned a TII but Brian will vouch I've taken his apart enough times to know what I'm doing on it.

I've also filled in all the BASE-BASE models with Long line... as it's also common knowledge that they all came with the long brake lines... and I've seen plenty of them in the junkyard to know it's damn true.

I am under the impression that all 4 pot calipers Rx7s had the same extra hard line on each fron wheel, while the 2 port calipers rx7s had the regular hard lines + a longer rubber line.

already covered in the sticky threads (see sticky thread Standard features and Options)

But in case you can't read that sticky thread the breakdown is as follows:

86-87 Base, 86-87 Luxury, 87.5-88 SE all had single piston 4 lug front brakes
89-90 GTU, and 91 Coupe w/o A package got single piston 5 lug brakes.
86-87 Sport, 86-90 GXL, 87-91 Turbo, 88 GTU, 88-92 'vert, 89-90 GTUs, 91 coupe w/ A package all got 4 piston 5 lug front brakes.

Please read the sticky threads before posting, besides the fact that this has been covered countless times.
