Okay, another S4-S5 question

Anyone running an S4 intake setup on an S5 block?

If so, what were the issues that you encountered?

This is all N/A.

Thanks in advance!

wasnt in the archives..The thread you are thinkng about is the one where the S5 intake was put on the S4 motor.

I am putting an S4 intake on an S5 motor.

Only thing I can come up with is figuring out the mess of vaccum hoses. They are configured different.

Ahhh that will teach me again for not reading all the way through...

Why do you want to put a S4 intake on a S5? the S5 flows better.

The S4 has shorter runners and will probably make more power on a streetported engine, at least Id think so. Im leaving the S4 manifold when i get my streetport and S5 rotors..

Well, I am trying to do whatever is the simplest... This is supposed to be a budget swap, so I thought that the S4 intake, top half, vac lines, etc would be the best.

Reason? No need to wire an electric OMP, (I am putting the S4 front cover on). No need to rig the 6-ports. No need to worry about VDI.

I figured that the block configurations were the same, so I would swap the s4 vac lines (going to have to block the EGR though), and the UIM and LIM, and the TB. then it would be a matter of plugging things back in, and away we go.

I have the S5 intake and vac lines, etc. I could go that route, with an S4 front cover, and an S4 TB (this gives me the ability to run the mechanical OMP). Premix is NOT an option, this isnt my car and the individual does not want to premix.

Boy, I thought this swap was easy! Its giving me a headache!

ah that makes sense, I personally would still try and use the S5 intake.

Infact if you really are not going to use it, PM me... I know someone that might want it for a S4.

Is there any validity to what I have said above, about the shorter S4 intake runners would be better for a ported engine? Or am I mistaken?

You know I just don't know the flow differences between a ported and non ported as the only "ported" (if you call it that) one I have worked with was extrud honed through the whole intake (except the 5th/6th ports).

Where is the torque roll off on your ported motor? That should tell you which should be better. If the torque rolls off under 6.5K then I would think the S4 would be better, but if it is rolling off higher, a working S5 system would make more sense to me.

Well my engine isnt ported yet, still stockpiling parts before the rebuild. I was just under the assumption that the S4 intake would perform better with a port, but I can see what youre saying about the torque curve..

Which brings me to the dilemma..

Can I use the S5 block/intakes, and the s4 Vac assemblies and all that stuff?
