This is what makes these cars so great, they can excel in almost any type of motorsport short of maybe rally (anyone ever try that?) They are some of the best roadracers/drifters/autox/gymkhana and anything thing that involves "turning" cars but are also at the top of import drag racing (if you consider the 7 sec three-rotor cars like the Siguel Racing FD even RX-7's anymore)

Ken, I like that scalpel analogy.

fast13b...I don't drive my car like a gramma...pulling a 1.99 60' with a car that's almost stock isn't babying it in any sense of the word...I just think that my 275 h.p. is within the stress limits of the stock drivetrain. Having 400+ horsepower without upgrading mounts and other drivetrain parts would be another story. Building a drag car is just like building any other kind of race car...you can't expect the stock parts to perform at the levels you demand of them without complaints.

All I am saying is that if it hasn't broken, it will soon. I've had n/a's and TII's, stock and modded, and as long as I drive mellow they are good but as soon as I bring on the abuse they start breaking. Hell, I have to work on mine now literally every weekend just to keep it driveable. Need something to complicate life more, I guess...

I agree with you there...I think my half shafts are the next to go...they are spraying grease up under the back of the car. I don't plan on going to the strip at all this year, so I should be all set.

yes and it is awesome...on a stock suspension setup too. You know now that i think about it don't know why this car continues to run for me, all i do is abuse the **** out of it and seems to want more

as far as this whole debate with drag/road racing deal, i think that 50/50 weight ratio is what makes these cars stick out so much (that and the beutiful rotary engine)

I remember back in years past someone made an AWD RX7 rally car... Was it Rod Millen??? Seems right, because I think it was raced at Pike's Peak. That's a hell of a race, BTW...

P.S. gutted cats are bad for flow. If you want it to look like you have cats shove a pipe through it or something.

Well, all this talk of mountain twisties and drag racing makes me want to put in my two cents.

I still like watching the Rally racing. Four cylinders, all wheel drive, and lots of drifting. I love it!

But here in south Georgia, i think I am the only redneck that knows what a Rally car is.

there is a difference though. road racing costs ALOT of money. when i went mads it cost me $280 for racing for two days, $70 for a hotel for two days $100 in gas, $100 for food, luckily nothing broke on my car that didn't just pop off or i would have to pay to fix whatever i broke. drag racing costs about $20-40 to race then gas, that's about it..... i enjoy doing both alot. my wallet enjoys drag racing more cause i actually have a chance to win money and free tires

the only car i like for handling is a 3rd gen, my friends 3rd gen is completely done up with suspension and goes to the track and runs a high 11 second run, so i would have to say both but with a 3rd gen...

I agree with the whole 50:50 weight distribution comment... ANY car can be a fast drag car (with enough $$ in it...) but it takes a special car to be able to run the twisties, drift like a ****, and not die...

....And finally, HOOOORAAA for twisties!!

i enjoy the twisty roads the most. i love to go out and just blast down the most crooked road i can find. i enjoy a good drift of course, and i make special drives just for drift. its a great feeling hangin the *** out around a corner, in perfect control, right in between a couple of friends doing the same thing. its awesome. but drag racing is by far more popular around here, so if i wanna compete against other cars i gotta drag race. i prefer to turn, but staight line is whats around more. eh whadaya gonna do?

well i guess it all depends on what type of rush you are looking for . to me , drag racing is a short term rush but it pumps more adrenalin than a road race. the road race to me is like being at home, i used to drive/race for a living. the road race takes a lot more to do , because not only do you have to have a fast car but you have to know how to handle it. but competition is competition and i love both of them. Peace, ex...

I wish I could enjoy more twisty roads, but I value my liscense, and around here there are cops everywhere. That being the case its hard to fully utilize them. The only place around here, where I dont endanger others, is at the dragstrip.

The costs are pretty relative to the amount of track time you get. Since your drag racing track time only comes 15 secs. at a time, that's not much of a bargain either. Especially when compared to a normal track session at a road course which can run from 20-45 mins. per session.

Keep the drag stuff, gimme road racing any day.

p.s. I got a big laugh in another thread from a guy that claims it takes more talent to launch a drag car than it does to drive fast through the curvy stuff.

I've got FWD ricer kids all around me. I like to mess with them when the road is wet. All they can do is spinnnnnnnn. I love the 50/50 weight on RWD.

The TII is the perfect car for me, great handling and then I can turn around and laugh at Camaro SS's and VETTES (depending on driver)

well I am going to have to say that I prefer draging. Doesn't mean I dont like to get the car a little sideways here and there :-)

I personally.....can't decide between the two. I love to drag, but I love to get her sideways too.

I love the way drag racing gets your adrenaline pumping, but the skill involved with controlling the car is incredible. (it does take some skill to launch the car perfectly in a drag race, but not as much skill as drifting )
