Question Ok idle, hard starting, crappy top end power, and a lot of smoke

Ah yes, another fine day in the life of rotary ownership.

OK, here's the rundown, see if you can tell me what the deal is.

First off, my car blows blue smoke if I rev above 4000 rpm before it is completely warmed up. The exit to my community is on a 50mph road, so sometimes this is necessary during the morning traffic. Leave a trail of bluw smoke like there is no tomorrow.

Secondly I have no top end power, and I mean like, none. I can barely hit redline, it all disappears after about 6000 rpm. The car accelrates like dung from a roll anything above 4000 rpm too. I tried with my aux ports open and closed (verified they were actually open too) and there is no difference. Idle is OK, and low end power is fantastic, even with my 3.90 rear.

The air/fuel gauge I have is telling me I am rich during acceleration, perfectly normal, so I am not running lean right now.

I am beginning to wonder if my exhaust isn't clogged to hell.

sound like my car before I blow the engine, tho I was running lean and had problems idleing. a coolent seal might of blown be careful.

this is just my guess based on nothing but blue smoke.

check your spark plugs you have a hot and a cold spark plug for each rotar either they need to be replaced or you have the wrong plugs to begin with my best brand i liked to use was ngk but there RATHER EXPENSIVE but i gad my best luck with them also if thats not the case check your exaust for water or extreem moister in your tail pipe.
my biggest **** off was my first rx7 which was verry picky on where i got gas from.
thats just my input hope it helps

***Ronin, posting under a friend's account*****

My spark plugs are fine. I just changed them in fact, NGKs all around, with the right plugs in the right holes. I got both leading and trailing plugs, and all are in the right place. I need to wait until my friend is back in town, he has a rotary compression tester and can figure out if there is a busted seal. I am hoping not.

well dude i dont know about the slugeshness but your smoke does it go away after it warms up or does it stay because the 2 rx7 iv owned and the one i own now smoked when i first started them up but it went away once the car was warmed up
its kinda normal for these rotary engines to smokewhen you start em up when they have some milage on them see the rotary engine has always had problems with seals since the first ones that were built. In fact that was the biggest problem wankle had was comming up with seals that would last.
hope this helps ease you a little

Yeah, the smoking doesn't worry me so much as the power loss does. I'm going to do a poor man's compression test and ATF treatment tonight
