birds are dumb they wont know if one got shot the day before, shooting at them on your mirror is even dumber

When you consider how unsanitary bird feces are, birds can really be a pest that needs to be dealt with. Would you consider it wrong to use a mouse trap on a mouse? I'm not for the wanton killing of little creatures, but you really have to look at it as pest control.

Oh come on, that is simply silly. There is a difference between animals breeding in your home. Pooping on your food prep areas, etc. And birds pooping on your car.

Along those same lines a friend's father used to own an auto repair shop and rather than kill the field mice they captured them and they had two separate aquariums, one for the males and one for the females.

I'd rather be shot in the head than to be put in a cage...Just sayin

That being said, I was the first person to offer a real non-lethal solution that is proven to work.

hmm..stay away from the "sandwiches" being handed out here,as we are out of cookies!,.lol!

I think I'll go with breadbags ..and a spring clip..
Just something easy to put on and take off..until the birds maybe get interested in Pilates or other activities that don't involve crapping on my mirrors!

This just in - feeding birds various chemicals hidden in food to make their stomachs explode is more humane than simply shooting them dead.

In my case, the birds were doing exactly what you described for those mice up thar ^. Pooping all over my BBQ pit and subsequent food prep area, all around my pool and deck in general. It was a massively disgusting problem that needed to be dealt with, and shooting two birds caused the other twenty to never come back. Done and done.

West nile season is beginning here. It's so bad here that when you find a dead bird, you are supposed to call animal control immediately. I've found several infected and dead birds at work. We had one die and fall off the roof of the shop and land on the concrete, scared the **** out of us.

So, instead of calling animal control, maybe I can ship one to you so you can rub its infected *** all over your mirrors?

We did a similar thing when I was in college- we had two aquariums as well-one for the mice and one for the snakes.

Friday night we turned over 4 tables in mess hall and made a square arena. Numbered the mice and placed bets on the order of ingestion.

True story.

Here is the thing- a bird is in its natural habitat, out in the open "free as a bird", then you decide to shoot it for being a bird.
You dont eat it, you dont mount it in your livingroom, its not a sport its just killing a bird.

A mouse comes into your house, its destructive, its dirty, it needs to go.

When someone would cause harm onto the smallest of creatures it speaks volumes about what kind of person they are. This is the behavior serial killers are made of. Im not even kidding either I dont think its "cool" to harm animals who are in their natural habitat.

I think that is going a bit overboard, getting rid of pests is not the behavior of a serial killer. You should realize that just because you think that the side mirror of someones car is a birds natural habitat, not everyone thinks the same way. I thought that this was a lively debate, until people started throwing insults around. Passion is great, but getting your point across is much more productive with level headed reasoning.(and some joking)

I shot a bird with my pellet gun when i was like 10. I cried like a baby watching it die, and don't think I could ever possibly do such a thing again.

I'd be more comfortable shooting an actual person (with good reason of course) than just shooting a defenseless and innocent bird. I don't care if it **** on my head 5 times...

The fake owl idea is pretty effective or put up a bird feeder away from the car, we have one near a tree by our house to keep them away from the cars and such they'll go for the feeder and hang out there, an air-soft gun would work as well and be non leathal, I use it to deter the stray cats and it works pretty good for birds and won't mess up your paint. There is always a scare crow, they scare more than just crows. . .

Anthropomorphiz that bird all you want. If it **** on my head, it is still just a bird. It's not innocent, it's not guilty. It's a bird. It can become a pest-if it repeatedly ***** on my head or my mirror. If it does, it should be deterred. Death is not the best deterrent, nor is it the cheapest in this case. Behavior modification is best for birds. Blow-up owls, socks, grocery bags, blow-up snakes etc.

I have an ongoing Jihad against the squirrels in my yard. Our town is full of oak trees. Millions of oak trees make trillions of acorns. The factor in animal leash laws and fences, there are no natural predators for our squirrels. Several years ago a squirrel family set up housekeeping in my attic. They chewed electrical wiring that could have burned my house down with my family inside.

Not Cool.

I caught a couple of dozen squirrels in my 'Have-a-Heart' live trap. Did you know that a squirrel who learns to enter an attic will always chew into an attic? Attics are nice and warm and contain lot's of squirrel fun! Even if you take a squirrel many miles away, he will just chew into someone else's attic and eat their wiring. Did you know that they teach the behavior to other squirrels? Behavior modification is not the answer in this case.

Those bastards simply had to die. I have to eradicate all the family and friends of those little wire munchers. It's not personal, it's business. But I take my business very personally.
