A bottle of Motor Honey will help some, as will using a thicker oil like 20w50, but only a rebuild is going to actually fix the problem.

the very best oil to use is Castrol Full Synthetic 10W 50 beats everything and extends the life of every motor but please dont use it in a rebuild because it WILL actually delay the brake-in time, best thing to use break-in time is Castrol GTX at 0 miles then at 1500 and when you hit 2000 put in Castrol Full Synthetic. And if you get it done at a lube center they will gaurantee your engine upto 500,000 miles and if it doesnt they will replace anything the oil touches.

WHy would you run synthetic in a rotary? Unless he has no OMP.

EDIT: puts on flame suit.

Some people have said, including one famous racing outfit whose name escapes me right now, that today's synthetics burn off more cleanly in rotaries than the crap that was on the market 15+ years ago. Personally, I prefer to stick with mineral and so not have to worry about the matter at all. Whatever.

When you say that you have a leak, are you talking about inside the motor (side seals) or outside the motor (and onto your driveway?)

Small leakage onto the driveway. I suspect something more though because the smoke is coming out of the exaust whenever i start it up. I've heard that's just a problem with rx7's but it can't be this bad. I was leaving school, you couldn't see the other cars behind me !!! I'll have it checked out as soon as I can. I hope to get the compression checked tommarow.

What colour was the smoke? Perhaps not oil?

it is common for the rotary engine to smoke a little at start-up, but nothing too major.

Could you verify that warranty please? Sounds like BS to me.

BTW, Fast Fours and Rotaries disagrees with your assessment that Castrol synthetic is the best oil, although I guess it depends on what properties you consider important.
