Oil smoke at idle and high RPMS

Good day!

My S4 turbo swapped 87 GXL smokes if it idles for more than 5 minutes. It is not a "smokescreen" but it is enough to concern me. If you rev it a little, the smoke goes away.

Also, while on track if I am at high rpms for awhile (going down a straight or holding throttle through a corner) the car will smoke then too.

This does not appear to be vacuum related. The smoke under high rpms is not after I close the throttle, it is while still accelerating (in boost).
Any ideas?

I still have the omp on the car. I do not run pre-mix. I have crankcase vents on both sides of the engine. One vent is where the turbo return line is (I have it "tee'd") and one vent where the stock line is (oil fill area).

I am using the charcoal canister as a "catch can". I leave a hose on teh bottom of the charcaol canister with a valve to drain it periodically.

What do you guys think?

Thanks,

Rob

that is a strange way to vent the crankcase IMO, try venting them to atmosphere and see if that makes a difference.

why did you vent the turbo drain hose btw?

I vented teh turbo drainline to get a vent on that side of teh engine. During sustained right handers, the oil will slosh to the left side of teh engine (where the vent is normally). This can cause a higher than normal crankcase pressure (nowhere for it to go) resulting in pushing oil into the combustion chamber or pushing oil out of the dipstick or oil filler neck.

where did you hear that from?

it's not a jetfighter, it can't pull 3Gs coming out of a corner. might have blockage issues if the car is running while on it's side though..

Its actually a pretty common problem (the crankcase pressure while sustained cornering). There are several how to threads on this subject on this forum.

anyways, try venting it away from the charcoal canister and see if that helps. the canister is a poor catch can.
