Oil sender wire, please verify
Can anyone verify with certainty that if you ground the wire connected to the
oil level sender, you will peg the stock gauge?
I'm trying to see for sure if I have a sender/gauge problem or (low) oil pressure itself. I have a mechanical gauge, but have been unable to find the correct adaptor to hook it up.
What I have done so far is remove the sender (less than a year old), hook up an ohm meter, then apply pressure to the sender. The highest pressure I can apply with my 'rig' is
about 18PSI. The ohm's read about 81 ohms at that pressure, infinity at no pressure. This tells me that the sender is at least working to some extent, I now feel I have a gauge issue.
Symptoms are the gauge barely moves, regardless of RPM's.
When I ground the wire, which has 12v, the gauge does not move. Does it sound like I'm on the right track?

The needle will read higher as resistance drops and current increases. As per the FSM: 200ohm @ 30psi, 110ohm @ 60psi and 80ohm @ 110psi. So zero resistance (wire grounded) will most definitely peg the gauge and eventually fry it.
Take the stock sender and your new sender to an engineering or hydraulic supply store and get an adaptor to suit. Easy.
