oil pressure questions
I have an 88 SE. Bone stock except for some exhaust work (not sure what's been done :-\)
My oil pressure is extremely high (near the top of the guage 100psi?). Earlier today, I was driving down a country road and downshifted to 3rd for a corner and my oil level warning light came on, and my oil pressure was waaaaaaay high.
So my question is this. Is there a problem with the engine or do I just need to run lighter oil, being that its cold and all?
And for when I do change my oil, which brand filter and oil is recommended, and how many quarts?
Thanks!

Verify the pressure with a mechanical guage. It sounds like you have a bad oil pressure sender. Your oil level is also too low if the buzzer went off in a corner.
I recommend 10W-30 in the winter, 20W-50 in the summer. Oil brands are basically opinion, but stick with the major brands. Filters...anything that's not made by fram. The engine holds about 5 quarts.
Sounds like you should pick up a factory service or Haynes manual.

I have the Haynes manual out in the car. I felt it couldn't hurt to ask (I forgot the manual had the oil weight and quantity thing in there).
I was reading through an article on Overboost and they said the Purolator filters were the best in filtering, while the STP filter was best for the money, and the OEM being the top dog altogether. This was for Hondas, but I assume that for the most part it will stick with most vehicles.
And as for the warning light, my oil pressure guage was still in the high range. Possibly the oil level is too high? I dunno. It's too cold outside to do much right at the moment.

A few weeks ago, when I start my car in the morning, my oil psi is nearing 100. When it warms up it hits around 45 or so. Now the psi when cold is 60 and hits 30 when warm. Is this OK? I got the motor from atkins, so i'm assuming the pellet is already in the eccectric shaft. all those number are referring to idle pressures. the pressure when cruising is just under 60 i think. but when i'm doing some spirited driving at 110+, the pressure drops to around 45 or so. this scares me as i would assume the pressure would rise with RPM. or is the oil getting so hot that it thins out and i lose pressure?
