Oil pressure problem Searched!

Okay, i have a 88TII and having low oil pressure readings. On cold start it will go up to about 60psi and then when warm almost 0 and driving its almost 0 even at 3k or 4k(maybe reading lik 15-20psi). so i know its either the sender or the e-shaft thermopellet. whats the best bet? and if its the e-shaft thermopellet, does anyone have a write up on it or a link on how to do it? I saw some links but the all didn't work. Thanks

It's the sending unit (most likely).

I would temporarily put a mechanical oil gauge in line to make sure it is engine related before i did anything else.

Fsm at the brgining of the 2nd gen section. Take out the eshaft pulley , take out the pellet, swap the pellets and clean the sealing surfaces and use lock tite on the threads and sealant on the washer and torque about 60lbs

Has the engine been rebuilt? If so then you almost certainly have the front cover o-ring problem. http://mazdatrix.com/faq/oring.htm I've had this problem before and it behaved exactly like what you are talking about.

If the engine hasn't been rebuilt, then it is the sender unit. As far as I know the thermopellet (the thing behind the front pulley) does not effect oil pressure. It's failure mode is to not circulate oil through the rotors which has no effect on oil pressure.
Before you do anything, get a mechanical oil pressure gauge to see what the oil pressure actually is.

Also, there are some problems with nu-rx7junkies description. First, it is torqued to 90 lbs. Second, if you take off the pulley you have to jam forward the clutch or you could destroy the front stack: http://mazdatrix.com/faq/pulley.htm Third, you will probably need a propane torch to break down the loctite. I destroyed a 1/2" impact grade socket that nut is on there so tight.
