Exclamation Oil Pressure Problem -- Please Help!!

Hi Guys (and you girls, too)...

I'm new to rx7club. I bought my first RX-7 this year (a black '88 N/A 13b Convertible)...and loving it!!

My first new glitch, though, and I'm hoping one of you "experts" can help...

Last week I was driving home and noticed my oil pressure gauge pinned through the roof (above 110!!). I'm now scared to drive it, for fear the engine isn't getting any oil injection.

Can anyone tell me if they've had this problem before, what might be wrong with my baby, and what can I do to fix it? Also, let me know what the cost might be?

Thanks in advance for the help...I'm looking forward to gettin' into "the club!"

your stock oil pres. sensor is probably disconnected. it should be located on your oil pres. sender, if it's not, then go down there and look for a white clip that'll hook up to that gold round looking thing(oil pres. sender) under your oil filter.

If it helps it is a red/yellow wire with a white square connector.

If it is connected, check to make sure the condensor (it bolts to the clutch slave cylinder) is connected. If the condensor is disconnected, the meter can spike. If all else fails the pressure sensor is about $60 at the dealer.

its a red/yellow wire. When it gets grounded, it spikes the gauge to the very highest it can go. It is probably either shorting, or just came off. The wire on mine was broke, i just spliced into it and hooked it back up the sensor.

The wire will be on the passenger side engine bay with the harnesses that are near the start/tranny harnesses. The wire is red/yellow and is wired parrellel with a capactitor that is mounted to the firewall.

Thanks for the pointers, guys!

I've read in another post that a faulty oil filter may be the problem...has anyone had any experience with this?
