oil pressure at idle

oil pressure at idle

86 na base model @750 rpm's I get just above 0 psi! WTF? bad pump? sending unit? OMP? Ideas please!

first start by checking and cleaning the connector at the oil pressure sending unit, usually dirt and crap gets in there and messes with the readings. second, if first doesn't fix it, pull the sender unit out and plug in a mechanical guage and verify that oil pressure is in fact low.

third is a question, does the oil pressure go up to 50-60psi when the engine RPMs are increased to cruising speed? if yes, most probably cause of low oil pressure is a failed o-ring in the front cover, this is the weakest point of the lubrication system and has been a problem area of the 13B for many years.

86 na base model body drive train,87 na gxl rebuit motor.The engine I am running is a rebuild from a parts car,the engine has about 70,000 miles on it.The pressure increases as the rpm's increase. I don't think it climbs much over 60 psi at 3,000 rpm's
