are you sure it doesnt have any oil pressure? are you relying on the gauge? if you get a new engine, you have to crank it some so that the oil will permiate the system.

buy the haynes service manual. I'm pretty sure it explains this pretty clearly. You have to crank the engine for a good 30 seconds the first time you fire a new one up.

If you rebuilt the engine make sure that the little teflon Oring that goes behind the front cover is there and it is doing its job. however I would check the sending unit, the little black box that is by the DS firewall and other related stuff before messing with that. and yeah I agree with you the haynes manual gets confusing. thats why you have this forum. this has been covered a few times already. ur oil pressure sender/gauge probably doesn't work while cranking. hook up a mechanical gauge if you are worried about it.

You probably won't get any oil pressure on a new engine while cranking unless you primed the oil pump with oil or assembly lube.

Once it starts, it should register oil pressure. If it does not, shut down and troubleshoot.
