Question OIL Pressure???

Hey guys,

I have my 89 GXL all stock. The last few day my oil pressure has been reading different than normal.

The other day it was actually dropping almost all the way down to Zero while driving. I would sink the clutch and rev a litle and it would go back up. and even under ful throttle is wasnt hitting 60 like usual staying around 40. Now I checked my oil level and it was a little low so i toped it off but that didnt change anything.

That was 3 days ago I parked my car for the weekend and now today under idle it seemed to be normal around or just below 40 but when under full throttle it's at about 50 or so does not reach 60 like it use to. it's not droping below 40 anymore while driveng either. And feels just a little sluggish sometimes.

I checked for any visible leaks that I could see and nothing was found. Could this mean my oil pump is failing?

Any help is greatly appreciated

and it's not smoking or anything.

Thanks again
also if it is the oil pump are they hard to change Im pretty handy just never messd with anything on a rotary b4. This is my first one.

Adam.

The oil pumps don't fail. Ever.

Verify the pressure is low with a different gauge. The stock gauge is damped quite a lot and the senders are old with a higher failure rate now.

After- and if- a second gauge confirms low pressure, the next thing I'd check would be e-shaft thermopellet.
Malfunction of this part can result in slightly lower pressure, apparently.
At any rate, it's an easy, basically external, procedure, so why not see?
