Question Oil Pressure 30 good/bad?

My oil pressure is hanging around 30, is that good or bad. Also I haven't really been running tha car because I am waiting on the insurance for it....

30 at idle is fine anything below 30 you should be gettting worried, though on my TII I see 60 at idle and like 110 under throttle...

should be 15-30 at idle. and 60 at 3000rpm.

if you're getting 60 idle 110 while crusing. either your gauge is screwed or you got some racing oil pellet in there

I was wondering about that...My TII sees over 30 at idle, and cruise I am slightly over 60... Under pull, I am definately at 110... I thought that was a little high.

E-Shaft thermo valve has failed, don't drive the car until you fix it as you are oil starving the motor.

well to tell the truth i have been driving it like this for about 3 months, r 5k miles with no problem, just one day i got in the car started it and and it didn't go anyhigher than 40 psi. it is on the "things to do list" but i am broke right now and makeing it from pay check to paycheck at the moment i know reted has a sight on how to fix but i have now comon sense and am not sure what he means by a 7m washer, i went to auto zone and asked them for one and they just looked at me funnie

I belive my gauge is fubar, cause I just put in the atkins thermal pellet in and I get the same readings, and the pellet I took out was not a racing pellet, unless I'm stupid....

Yep... you might even go another 5K miles before your engine implodes...or maybe just 2 miles... just depends on the wear already on the motor.

But you are causing damage and when your car finishes wearing out it will die.

and the atkins pellet is only $20 with shipping... only as much as dinner at burger king for 4, or an oil change, or a tank of gas... so there is no reason not to use one....

*edit
If you really want to go cheap... go to Home Depot and get the washers... a 10 pack is only $2.

Your oil pressure relief valve has failed or been replaced with a racing one (but most racing ones only go up to 90 PSI)...

I *think* he means it's a 7mm washer.

Let's not forget that the dashboard pressure gauge is known to be a little wonky and also to fail. If you're realy concerned about your oil pressure, you should get a real gauge on there and see what it really is.

And how broke are you going to be when your motor dies and you're walking to work?

Blah

The stock gauges in our cars are almost useless after your first 100,000 miles.

I am at ~180,000 Miles and my boost gauge reads 1-2 PSI on full WOT, while my mechanical AFM boost gauge reads 7.9-8.5 PSI. My oil pressure gauge never reads over 30 PSI and actually starts dropping after 5500 RPM back down to 20 PSI, but when I temporarily rigged up an oil pressure gauge it read ~60 at 6000 RPM and ~20 at idle.

The stock gauges are useless aside from the Tach and the Speedo, and even those I wonder sometimes.

Sounds more like you need to replace your oil pressure sender (since that is what fails, not the gauge) and your boost sensor is dead and needs to be replaced just for your ECU to read boost correctly (since the boost gauge is run through the ECU).

Ok, quick question:

I too have low pressure at idle (86 GXL), but it is about 60-70 at speed, and will increase as engine speed does. (This is with an aftermarket guage) So,I probably need to put the new pellet in. What is the difference between an oil bypass pellet, and an oil pressure regulator? Is the pressure regulator something that goes as well?

The oil pressure regulator is found in the back of the engine, accessed from removing the oil pan. The stock relief setting is 60-65 psi.

The E-shaft thermo valve is accessed from the front bolt in the E-shaft. It is open allowing full flow at around 140F.
