oil pan pain
oil pan pain
hey guys, my oil pan gasket is leaking becuase the last owner used the junk that comes in a tube. i was looking at it and the motor mount is like right under the pan, and i cant figure out how to get a ratchet under the bolts torwrds the front of the car. im confused, just please dont tell me i have to f*** with the motor mount. thanks
Uh, sorry fred but if you look real close you'll notice that a pax side motor mount bolts right through the oil pan. I'll guess you'll have to f**** with it.
Use an offset wrench to remove the front bolts. It is a pain but not impossible. Also, try not to damage the oil pan when breaking the seal on it.
It is not a hard job, just a little time consuming to loosen and tighten those pesky bolts.

See the problem is that the motor mount on the FC (and FD) is through the oil pan... so you can use an oil pan gasket, and eventually it will leak (sooner the more HP and Torque your motor makes)
Or you can use RTV and sooner or later it will also leak (sooner the more HP and Torque your motor makes).
So until someone comes out with a cast oil pan and O ring for the FC, you should use which ever one makes you feel more comfortable.

Don't mess with regular RTV sealant.
I have repeatedly used rightstuff by Permatex with 100% success. No need to allow the RTV to cure before applying full torque. This is the stuff that NASCAR uses. No wait, no fuss, just 100% effectiveness.

It should be considered more a personal preferance...
do you like glue, or do you like a gasket...
Your choice

A BAD habit may i say. Broke 2, they say 15 lbs of torque or 30 or seomthing putting them back on, and mine were so bad 2 broke putting them back on, and 1 broke taking it off, like wtf! Lol. Yeah be very careful with that.
