oil pan

I just pulled the motor out of a USDM (MPH speedo, true usdm style yo!)(sorry I'm from canada lol).. '88 TII. The oil pan looks different than any TII oil pan that I've seen, but maybe I'm just not underneath my car enough. By the oil drain, there's the oil level indicator (I think), and beside it there's another thing. WTF is that one for?

My stock oil pan on my 89 TII only had a space for the oil level sender to go in, but my reman came with an oil pan that had an extra hole tapped into it. Is this what you are talking about? None of the bolts I had could be used to seal it up. The only thing that would fit in there was the fitting for the oil cooler lines. I called the Malloy Mazda, where I ordered the reman from and Ray told me it was an oil pan for regions where there was extremely cold weather. I dont know what would have went there but I didnt really care at all so I left it at that.

There's something in that hole, but I don't know what it is.

temperature sensor. if your putting engine into a car that does not have the temp sensor, just leave it in and don't worry about it. and yes, the other thing is the level indicator. on my car I dont have the temp sensor or level indicator hooked up. it does not affect ecu.

It's the oil thermo unit for the sub zero system. When you look at the oil pan from the driver side it should be on the right. on the left would be the oil level sensor.

i think its there to take a temp reading of the oil so the sub zero system knows when to operate? i could be wrong though.

chances of my car being operated when the temperature is below 32 are slim and none, so I guess I'll just leave it off.

Thanks everyone!
