oil out of flywheel seal?

Hello all!

My dad just picked up my new used engine, and everything looks in order except the fresh oil coming out of the flywheel seal. ( I am just going off what my dad says because I havnt seen the engine yet) but he said there is about a 4 inch seal around the flywheel (shaft?) that he thinks needs to be replaced.

My question is .... is is it just that flywheel seal that is bad (and if so what is its real name :0) ) or is there bigger problems inside? Blown oil seal or something?

THANKS SO MUCH! When I test drove the car with the engine in it worked and pulled fine, had a 85 (rear) and 90 (front) compression and passed the puff puff air test. :0)

Thanks.

there is a rear oil seal around the that could fail and would leak oil. you can change it with the engine still together, might require removing the stationary gear im not sure.

It's just the rear eccentric seal leaking. Can be easily changed with the engine in the car but you need to remove the flywheel. Rear stationary removal is not necessary unless the leak is coming from the o-ring that seals the stationary gear (unlikely).

unlikely BUT it has happened. I thought it was just the rear main seal...replaced it and still had a leak. Put in some UV engine oil dye and spotted the leak with a blacklight coming from rear stat gear. It is uncommon but with this car, nothing is impossible.

Mazdatrix. I think Racing Beat carries the rear main seal, too.
Man this must be the day for rear main seal problems. This has to be at least the 3rd person with this problem just in the past 3 or 4 hours.

Yeah, I wonder the same thing. And I can get it in next day for a small shipping price.
