Oil Monster

Question,
I have a 1988 convertible RX7 with 115k. Recently the car has been consuming about a quart of oil every other day, or every 100 miles, however, the car runs fine and there are no signs of spillage where I park on a daily bases, or smoke out the tail pipe for that matter....I am currently using 10-40..if I upgrade to 20-50 will this resolve the problem?...or is there something else I need to look at?

You must be burning it. A heavier oil may HELP, but will not solve the problem. I'd imagine your side seals are on their way out, so the only cure is to open up the engine and replace them.

What about the O rings under the oil filter....it seems to be quite a bit of oil in the area, as a matter of fact I was told to replace them...do you think this could be the problem??

I thought you said in the other thread there were no leaks?!

First, completely clean the engine with a degreaser. Then drive the car around...Any leaks?

If there is a constant leak under the filter, then replaec the O-rings.

I think he means the oil control ring rubbers... that's what went out on my 89' GTU. It's a rebuild. I drank enough oil in 2 days / 28 miles, to cause my low-oil buzzer to go off
