Exclamation Oil Leaks????????

Today i got my 86 N/A RX-7. Stoped it on a piece of cardboard and in 5 min it had 4 drops under it. One under which looks like to be each corner of the motor. I need to know what's wrong here. BTW it has 140,000 friendly miles from the one owner that is like 60 now. Any help from a person that knows what is wrong will be great.

Looked at it today under the hoist and the oil cooler washers were leaking but i knew that from reading posts but another leak is under the oil filter it's not the filter but right under that. it looks to be the oil pressure sending unit. Do those have problems???? also my passenger front brake caliper is leaking brake fluid. Does this normally happen??? Probably going to replace any way but just thought to ask.

me too

i think i have the same leak as you, it looks to be coming from right under the oil filter. anyone else have this problem in the past and fixed it? if so, what did you have to replace?

it also looks like i might be dripping oil from the omp area... the lines themselves look ok, i was thinking maybe the o-ring for the whole assembly? again, is this a common occurance? the car is a 1990 gxl, which i just got 1 week ago, and is my 1st rx7. thanks!!

Theres two small o-rings on the oil filter pedastal that have gone bad. You have to remove two 10mm nuts (if I can remember right?) under the pedastal that you cant see when your looking at the oil filter. Feel under the pedastal to feel where the nuts are. Do it next time you change your oil.

did it!

ok i have done it! i asked a rotorhead friend of mine that said the exact same thing. the o rings i took out now have a square cross section, and are totally brittle.

i hope it solved my oil leak issue, i shall keep checking for oil spots the next few days.

i did, however find another leak! this time a coolant leak coming from a heater hose going through the firewall. there is a rubber grommet separating the hose from the metal. is this another common issue? any tips on fixing this one guys? is it the heater hose itself? or perhaps a leaky heater core? thanks!

Just loosen the clamp and move it around a little to better seat the hose and re-tighten. Dont tighten too tight because the hose is attached to a plastic tube, if I remember correctly. Hopefully your plastic connection is not cracked. Also, if you have cheapo clamps they can loosen. I had that problem with all my hoses leaking at the fittings until i installed good stainless clamps. No more leaks.
