Oil leak, cant figure out where its coming from. Pics provided

I dont know where this oil leak is coming from but I just rebuilt the omp so I highly doubt its coming from there. I dont know if it could be the oil pan , but there is an indent on my front cover is this normal ? I point it out in the pics.

The leak isnt bad, its just that I wish I didnt have any leak at all and I dont want this leak to get any worse. The engine only has about 2500+ miles on rebuild.

If it wasn't leaking before you worked on the MOP, I would suspect the leak is coming from there. Did you replace all the gaskets and torque the bolts? Did you replace the MOP lines? If so, maybe the leak is coming from one of the injectors or injector lines and running down on the lower part of the engine.

If the oil is where you show it, I doubt if it's coming from the pan. Clean the area off again and run the engine while you watch the area above and adjacent to where the oil appears. Use a flashlight. Don't know about the indent. It's dark or I would check out my front cover.

Dont think the oil is coming from the omp, it was leaking before I rebuil the omp. I really dont know if watching it while the car idling is going to do anything , i have no idea where its coming from and doesnt really leak until i put load on it.

If I ever get to putting a new lim with 5/6 ports on it for my s4 ill check everything out while I have the top portion of the intake out, but who knows when this will be. The leak isnt bad really, just dont want it to get worse.

Looks like it is coming from either the metering oil pump, or the front cover gasket. A dye kit is available at the auto parts store for about $30. It can eaisly pinpoint leaks.

If the leak is the front cover, do you think it will stay abotu the same or will get worse ? I dont have the money for a dye kit right now really but am curious as to if the leak will get worse because its not anything significant now.

If it is the front cover i really dont have the experience or tools to fix it.

Is that indent normal ? If its the gasket , could it be possible that the front cover needs to be replaced ? I remember when the front cover was taken off by landers I had seen it was in good shiny condition inside so I dont know why it would be leaking now.

It's not the wrong one its more or less mazda is slow in the head. But that would cause an internal oil leak not external.

That is an internal oil leak that results in low oil pressure.

Oil leaks can stay the same, or get worse. It depends. I suspect it will stay about the same as it is now since it is not a pressurized leak.

The dye kits are cheap, about $30-$50. I can't see how you can afford gas and insurance if you can't get a dye kit.

The indent looks to be a dent. The gasket that seals the front cover is a regular paper gasket. If it got damaged during install or the mating surfaces were not clean, then it can leak. Unless the front cover is warped (doubtfull) then it will not need to be replaced.

Well then I think it doesnt matter if i dont fix it (in theory) if the oil leak isnt going to get any worse because its not bad now and I change the oil normally at 1500 miles anyways, just because I care that much.

I know if I was going to replace the gasket it probably wouldnt be a job that Id trust myself doing with my current knowledge and experience. I'm sure the gasket isnt very expensive.

As far as affording gas and insurance, I barely can afford that and thats why my car isnt driven very much , it doesnt even have much gas in it now but I expect I may go for a drive or at least start it up and let it warm up because I dont like letting it sit for a long time.

edit - I also know I dont have that internal o-ring problem for sure, my oil pressure is always where it should be and you can pretty much see that on the videos I made that show the gauges. It hits about 60psi max.

That's twice as often as necessary. Save money and do it at 3K.

I dont mind doing it every 1500 miles even if maybe im doing it more often than I should its not hurting anything and engine has less carbon because Im using fresher oil.
