Angry oil gauge trouble

First let me say this. ( The Engine is Off )

Ok, when I turn the key on the oil gauge goes strait through the roof and the warning buzzer goes off. Any ideas on this and or the location of that blasted warning buzzer.

Hum, two things I can think of. The gauge should peg when it is being grounded. Possible broken wire somewhere.

There is no buzzer for high oil pressure. There is a buzzer for low oil. Located on the pass. side of the pan i think. Dunno, just look down there and you will see it.

Make sure you have oil

Then make sure that the sensor is still plugged in.

I am gonna gut the dash this weekend, I will look for loose or broken wires. Just weird that it does this with the engine off. Needle climbs all the way up the BUZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ. thanks for the pointers.

I am assuming the key is in the ignition posistion?

If not that is really weird. The oil warning and gauge system are electrical so it will do its thing with the engine off or out of the car.

Before you play with the dash look for a broken wire in the engine bay. The sensor is on the drivers side. Under the oil filter. Looks like a mushroom.

The key is in the On position, such as just listening to the radio. I am also looking for Interior and console parts, Center console, peice that mounts under the glove box and holds the right front speaker, as well as the Radio and AC console cover.

if you are just listening to the radio the key should be in the ACC position not the ON position.

There is (clockwise), OFF, ACC, ON and START positions on the ignition switch. You should not be sitting for log periods of time with the key in the on position without the engine running.

It almost sounds like the pressure sensor wire has shorted to the level sensor wire. Would cause similar symptoms.
