Oil gauge problem

Oil gauge problem

My oil gauge maxes out as soon as I turn the key on. I have tried disconnecting the wire going to the sending unit but the gauge still stayes maxed out.

88 GXL Less than 1k on rebuild.

It could be either of these 2 problems,
1; your oil pressure sending unit is broken and shorted internally.
Remove the wire from the sending unit. It is just uner the oil filter. does the problem go away? if yes change the sender. a new on is 65 bucks or so from mazdatrix or auto parts stores.

2; the oil pressure sending unit wire is shorted to ground some where.
If the problem doesnt go away when the wire is disconnected from the sending unit the it is shorting to ground somewhere between the sending unit and the gauge in the dash.
