oil gauge ground resistor

Well, my oil pressure guage hasn't work since the tranny swap== I know why too. We had a piece of grounding left over (oops). Well apparently it goes to the oil pressure guage. It looks like their might be a resistor (ive also read as so) to the ground for the gauge. Anways I went to rebolt the ground down and plug the wire back together. I couldn't even get to the bell housing anymore so I had to bolt it to the frame. anywys, the wire must have been pretty brittle because the wire broke off directly at the box on the doughnut (rather where the resistor is). I tried my best to drill around it a bit, and resolder. Its pretty obvious it didn't work. (Why cant they make solder that ahderes to plastic!?)

Anyways, basicaly my question is whats is the resistance on the resistor in the ground? I figure it will be easier to take a trip to radioshack than it will be to try and fix the messed up ground.

Thanks for your help!

Yep Banzai is correct it is a Capacitor/Condensor not a resistor.

They are only like 50 cents at a junk yard or 3 bucks at the dealer.

Hmm... alright, thanks for the correction, didn't realise they were so inexpensive.

but the oil pressure guage should still work with out it. mine is broken off, has been and everything still works fine. i think the cap is to help clear up the signal to the guage. also if you take apart the harness, you'll see that the clip that goes onto the OPS and the wire that goes to the CAP meet under the electrical tape, so they share the same wire. also, the OPS is grounded because it is touching the engine which is grounded.

The cap helps against electrical surges which will screw with gauge readings.

That happens more with cars with poor grounds and can eventually cause the gauge not to read at all.
