Question Oil filter mount o-rings Any info?

I have a pain in the butt oil leak that I think may be coming from the o-rings in the oil filter mount pedestal.

Anyone have any advice on how to change them out?

I looked in the archive and found 1 thread with information....however the link to the info was dead.

dude, that's wrong. Ever hear of helping a guy out?

Jaemie:

Take the oil filter off. Then use a 10mm wrench and lossen the two nutts located underneath the oil filter pedistool. Thats it. It comes off and you'll see two o-rings.

You can find the same size o-rings at any hardware store in the plumbing section.

Note: Some people say to only use the Mazda o-ring because it is a vivitron o-ring. (IE: Different than plain rubber) But I've been using the regular o-rings for years now with no problems.

A little Hylomar won't hurt either. Use this to keep the
O-Rings In place.

Also check for a leak around the oil pressure send unit to the left of the oil filter. Motor was oiled up around that area and I falsly assumed it was the filter "o" rings. Turned out to be the send unit once I changed them and cleaned up around that area.

Little shrinkage on the powah there...

your follow up does make this a good community! Glad to see it!

Jaemie: make sure everything is VERY clean before you reassemble. The Hylomar is a great suggestion as well. Good luck!

Might also be a good time to replace the water hose that loops around below the filter. The leaking oil softens and weakens the rubber.

Thank you guys for the great info! I'll check out the oil sending unit at the same time and make sure to clean everything up first (It's been oily for a long time).

BTW - I'm a chick!

I hope you don't bang up your hands and arms working on engines the way I do!

hehe I missed the female part.

Sorry about my first post as I was not reading slowly and I beleived you had an oil control ring problem which is internal and you need to take apart the engine to replace those. I hope you fix those o-rings though.

THANK YOU SO MUCH GUYS!!! I can always count on the RX7 Forum for great tips!

You can't work on an RX7 with out getting your hands dirty, that's for sure!! My hands are small so some of these types of jobs I'll do myself to save some $$. Most other things on the 7 I have done at a shop.
