oil filter housing o-rings

Anyone got a trick that will help me keep the new o-rings in the right place while installing them? Could I use a small amount of grease or vaseline to stick them to the housing or will that cause them to be damaged during installation?

Cover them in grease or Hylomar.

Thanks Aaron, it makes sense, just making sure that Mazda in their infinite wisdom did not have something else in mind. (after all they DID put the recessed flats for the o-rings on the BOTTOM of the housing instead of on TOP of the pedestal) The Haynes did not seem to go into much detail nor the FSM. O-rings are cheap performing the change is kind of a PIA so I only want to do it once if I have to do it at all.
