Oil filler neck o-rings?

I have an oil slick down the driver's side of the motor, right under the filler and filter necks. I checked Mazdatrix's site and they list o-rings for the filter tower neck but nothing (that I could find) for the filler neck.

There are o-rings for the filler neck, aren't there?

I just picked up two of 'em today--$11! The guy even said he felt bad having to charge me. The rings are amazingly unremarkable.

Where exactly do these rings go? On the top of the tower where you stick the filter? Or do they go underneath it?

The filter o-rings go between the block and the filter mount.

There is no o-ring on the filler tube. The only one around is the one on the filler cap. What you want to check is the small 90 degree hose that goes from the filler tube to the PCV valve.

Purge valve. Look beside the oil filter. Round black cylinder.

I'll check that out. Thanks for the tip.

They have the filter tower o-rings at the dealership, fortunately (won't have to wait for them to come in.)

Tube to the PCV valve showed no signs of leakage.

The o-rings in the filler neck were squished flat and there was oil everywhere. They were definitely dead.

I don't know why they call it a tower. It's more like 'oil filter stump.'

Sonic, go to

I posted some pics there. The red lines are pointing to where the new o-rings go (I had to peel the old ones off of the engine side of the base.) I dabbed fresh oil on both new o-rings before inserting them.

It's a 10mm wrench to get the nuts off the underside.

This is a very good site:

http://dhtns.com/car/rx7/oil_ring/

You might want to check the heater hose underneith the oil filter that goes from the engine to the fire wall. If oil was leaking, chances are it leaked on the hose, causing a pin hole leak, which will get bigger.
