It would be a pain in the ***, IMO, to drain the cooler, as well. With a regular pan drain and new filter, it should be around 4.5 quarts of new oil.

so its pretty hard and not really even worth it to drain the oil cooler??? Reason i ask is because the car has been running straight sae 40 its whole life 133k miles and today i am changing it to castrol 20w50 and thought that the 40 would mess the 20w50 up...

You really can't drain it out...without removing the lines...maybe forcing air through it to purge the oil?

Anyways, just change the oil when it is very hot...and that is good enough.

It's not hard to pull a line off the cooler, but just seems like a waste of time.

Something about very hot oil just seems like a bad idea to me. Scalding comes to mind.

Yah, same here...

Just drain the pan and don't worry about the oil in the OC. there's not much in it so the used oil will be diluted pretty good.

Trust and believe its not that bad. its not BURNING hot. its just... too warm to play with.

it wont actuly burn you if its only on your skin for a few seconds. If you change your oil semi-carefully no oil will ever touch your skin.

I usually get some on my fingers from removing the drain plug, and the last time I changed the oil filter on my '86 escort I got a face full of oil. It should be noted that the oil filter on the '86 escort wagon 1.9 carb is on the back of the engine, above the exhaust pipe (which gets hot when you run the engine) and behind some ****. It's also tilted upwards, so it stores oil. Tip it over just a bit and you've got a face full of oil.

Needless to say, it's a lot easier on the rex, but that's just the way I look at it.

I hate that ******* ford.
