oil cooler question
Is the bypass valve or hole or whatever you want to call it, necesary in the oil cooler? Would it not cool better if you plugged it and let all the oil run through the cooler. If it is a pressure problem, could i plug the thing and run two oil coolers in parallel?
Im trying to figure out what would be better, running 2 oil coolers in series, or 2 in parallel. And i want to know why the oil coolers have a bypass hole in the first place, none of the after market ones do. I would think they wouldnt cool as well with it, because most of the oil wouldnt even go through the core, it would just go strait to the return line.
I want to completely eleminate the risk of overheating. Everything i have read says the stock radiator is big enough to cool anything, it just becomes heat soaked because of limited air flow through the engine bay. And i have also read that once the air flow problem is eliminated cooling the oil is far more important than the water, because what the oil cools, the water doesnt have to.
If anyone can help me out alittle, it would be great!

do you have an oil temp guage?
I would'nt really worry about messing w/ the oil system unless your car is very modifed or your temps are high. oil temp should not go above 200F
but if you do, make sure you bypass the thermostat properly. if you just take it out the oil will not flow through cooler. Mazda put the thermostat in so the engine would warm up quicker. I've read about people putting 2 together and stuff but I think its overkill
just get an upgraded radiator if your worried about overheating. yeah, i've read that the oil does 50% of the cooling and stuff like that too. but the systems work off each other and the rad is much easier to put in.
