Front line - two wrenches or some long vice grips and a rubber mallet. You have to grip both of the fittings and hold one in place while loosening the other.

Back line - get the car up in the air, put a socket or wrench with a breaker bar over the fitting. Lay the breaker bar facing towards the back of the car. Lower the jack. That should do it.

Thin spanner wrenches help, if no got then you're going to have to "make" room to get the tooling in there...Remember you also need two wrenches at the engine, one to hold the adapter fitting still on the engine, and the other to loosen the hose fitting...

thanks for the input guys, i decided to take off all the A/C stuff and give it to my dad so he can use it on his 87 n/a now. after we got the condensor out we just brought the cooler out with the engine. tranny and all, so tomorrow night the 5 speed conversion takes place. or at least preperations for it.

i got the entire engine out in 6 hours. most of the work i did by myself so i'm pretty proud. i know some guys can get an engine out in at most half that time but for my 1st engine pulled by myself i think i did pretty well.

want pics?

good job! i usually take them out with the cooler connected. the 10mm's come off easy. I steam clean the fins on every rebuild and flush most. so the cooler is coming out anyway.
