Oil cooler hookup question

OK, before i go to far on my dual oil cooler project, id like to ask some questions regarding hooking everything up correctly...

As i currently understand it

The hot oil OUT OF the motor is on the rear fitting
The cool oil INTO the motor is on the front fitting

The hot oil INTO the oil cooler goes on the top fitting.
The cooled oil OUT OF the cooler is on the side fitting.

Im not sure if this is right or not, i havent hooked it up yet but i forgot to make a note of it when i pulled it apart. Can anyone verify these hookups to make sure its right? Also, what would happen if it was backward, would the thermostats in the oil coolers not open??

Thanks for your input

Thank you, that is a great diagram!

Now, can anyone tell me what would happen if the inlet/outlet on the oil cooler were to be reversed? Would the thermostat not open or something? Just curious...

its possibe that the thermostat wouldn't open. Why would you reverse the flow on one of the coolers? Are you running them in series or parallel?

The FSM says to boil some engine oil in one of your pots that you normally boil hot dogs in. When the oil gets to 150 degrees F check the thermostat and it shows a measurement for how far it should have moved. So, if you have oil at one end of the thermostat, the thermostat should open when the oil is hot enough. Now if the oil is on the wrong end of the thermostat, it may have to get hotter than normal while its waiting for the heat to transfer through the thermostat housing and cause it to start operating. Just a w.a.g. If you run them in series, you could run the oil through the first cooler like normal. If oil is too cool, it won't go past thermostat. Once it heats up, thermostat opens up and it will go to the second cooler. Remove the thermostat from the second cooler, then you don't have to worry about direction of flow. Just a thought.
