if oil actually is in the coolant it wouldnt be black. if enough oil got in the coolant it would turn yellow/white. change the coolant and see if the blackness comes back.

btw. coolant usually gets in the oil. not the other way around.

That oil leak on the front right of your engine can be something that takes out a lot of 2nd gen engines. The oil cooler hoses run on that side, and after time start leaking and eventually burst. Check out that leak asap.

its most likely one of your oil coller lines then. make sure they are torqued down enough. if they still leak then you need new copper washers or new lines. make sure its not something simple, like the oil filter not being on tight enough as well :P

yeah, sometimes the little stuff will kill you....but more than likely its the oil cooler lines, may want to just replace them if they wont tighten down

They are two big hydraulic lines that run along the drivers side of your engine bay/frame rail all the way along the oil cooler (in front of the radiator). This pic is on a sand rail, but you can see where they attach to the engine. Yours will be rubber unless someone has changed them to stainless already.

I've seen dark coolant before when people mix colors (green and red, etc). I would change your coolant and check it every day to see if it changes color. If coolant gets into the oil you will start seeing yellow/white jelly (easy place to check is the dipstick). I haven't personally seen oil getting into the coolant but I suppose its possible.

Also I just had a hydraulic hose shop repair my front oil cooler line for 25$ and they did a pretty good job on it. It may be a better alternative to getting a new one from mazda depending on the quality of the shop thats doing the job.

to me it doesnt seem to be either of those two lines its seem right off the block, maybe just when im driving its spraying onto the block which would be why the block has the oil on it im not sure.... the yellow circles highlight where i think its coming from

front cover/ oil pan leak right there? Fishy, but VERY possible!

Ah, I am about to swap a lower milage engine in. I am looking forward to it, but the stuff I think I may need to overhaul, like the brake and clutch cylinders, wiring, all kinds of washers, gaskets, and other crap, is giving me nightmares like crazy!
